A Word From Fr. Tom - 5.08.16

Mother’s Day is always a special day to honor all the women in our lives who hold a motherly role: mothers, grandmothers, Godmothers, mother in-laws and aunts. It is a special day to say thank you for all they have done for us. I thank God every day for my mom, Marge, who after all these years, still does so much for her three children and seven grandchildren. Thanks mom for giving me life, teaching me the faith, and encouraging and supporting me throughout the forty five years of my life. Life...what a beautiful choice!

This weekend we celebrate the Seventh Sunday of Easter. The readings this weekend focus on unity. In the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we read the martyrdom of St. Stephen. He says “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” In the Gospel of John, we read the closing of “Jesus’ Farewell Discourse” at the Last Supper. Jesus gives his “priestly prayer” and prays that we all may be one in him. In this beautiful prayer Jesus prays for himself, his disciples and for the community. The ultimate concern for Jesus is concern for the unity of the community

As we come into the home stretch of the Easter Season let us let go of grudges or differences and reach out and extend a sign of peace to someone. Pray for families that are divided, co-workers, classmates and neighbors that have strained relationships.

Pentecost is next weekend. Please wear something red to Mass. The second collection next weekend is for Catholic Relief Services. Please be as generous as possible.

Parish Census to be conducted May 14-15! All registered parishioners will be asked to participate in updating their information as we conduct a Parish Census the weekend of May 14 and 15 after all the Masses in the Gathering Space. We ask that parishioners stop over and look over the print out that the parish has for each registered individual/family. It is a good time to update family members who have moved out, phone numbers and e-mail addresses. This will save time calling each family. Also, if a person attends mass on a regular basis here at St. James and is not registered, this will be a great opportunity to register.

Parish Improvements Ron Parisi – Home Remodeling of Ambridge continues to make renovations to the Gathering Space. He is upgrading the ceiling in the middle of the room. Bishak Electrical Services, LLC of Sewickley continues to upgrade the electrical outlets as well as install new lighting throughout the room.

Please note that during renovations, the Gathering Space is closed for “thru traffic” during the day Monday thru Friday, 6:00am to 5:00pm. Thank you for your patience as we continue with renovations throughout the month of May.

Please Note Offertory Gifts If you have a weekend Mass intention for a loved one and would like to bring up the gifts during the Offertory, please contact one of the Ushers before Mass.

All of our restrooms in the church and Gathering Space are equipped with sensor lights that turn on and off automatically. There is no need to touch the sensor light when entering or exiting the restrooms.

Newly Baptized Congratulations to Emery Rose Eldridge, daughter of Scott and Wendy Batman Eldridge and Aubrey Roxa Metz, daughter of William and Lauren Freeman Metz and William Cameron Hanlon, son of William and Kristie Kubit Hanlon who are being Baptized this weekend.

Wedding Bells Congratulations to Thomas Maher and Sandra Nelson who are validating their marriage vows this weekend.

Welcome Home A special St. James welcome to Lou and Sharon Cisar, and Tony Mastroianni to who recently registered at St. James Parish.

A special welcome to all of our second graders and their families who are with us this weekend celebrating their First Holy Communions!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mothers, grandmothers, Godmothers, aunts or any woman that holds a “motherly role” in someone’s life.

**Please note that there will be no daily Mass this coming Wednesday, May 11 or Friday, May 13. I will be out of town for a mini-retreat. **
