MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It doesn’t happen very often, Christmas Eve falling on a Sunday, which is also the Fourth Sunday of Advent this year. We light the fourth and final candle in our Advent Wreath in the morning then come back in the afternoon, evening, or on Monday to celebrate Christmas Day. (This will not happen again until the year 2023.) For the past four weeks we have been watching, waiting, and preparing the way for the Lord. In the Gospel this Sunday from Luke we read the Annunciation, when the Angel Gabriel announces to Mary that she will be the Mother of the Son of God. Mary says yes to carry the Lord.

Let us make some Christmas and New Year’s Resolutions to pray more, attend Mass on a regular basis and become more fully involved in the various parish activities, small groups and events.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Christmas at St. James Please note that this weekend is the Fourth Sunday of Advent and also Christmas Eve. We will need to do a “double header” and come to Mass twice this week. We will follow the regular weekend Mass Schedule: Saturday, December 23 5:00pm Mass, and Sunday morning, December 24 at 7:30am, 9:30am, and 11:30am. Christmas Eve Masses will be held Sunday, December 24 at 4:00pm, 7:00pm and Midnight, and on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25 at 9:30am.

Please note that there will be NO MORNING MASS Tuesday, December 26 thru Friday, December 29.

The Rectory offices are closed this week for the Christmas and New Year’s We will reopen on Wednesday, Jan 3.

Please hold all rectory phone calls and office business until after the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. If you need assistance (for an emergency matter only) please call my office at 412-741-6650, ext. 311.

On Mission for the Church Alive! We continue to move forward with the On Mission For the Church Alive which is a process that will change the structures, staffing, and pastoral strategies of every district in the Diocese starting October 15, 2018.

One of the immediate On Mission changes is the parish cemeteries. The 116 parishes that operate a parish cemetery are now run professionally by the Catholic Parish Cemeteries Association. For the past several months the parishes in Greene and Washington Counties have transitioned their cemetery records from the parish offices to a new administrative center in Cecil Township, and the parishes in Beaver, Butler and Lawrence Counties have transitioned their cemetery records from the parish offices to the new administrative center in New Castle. Both centers are now fully functioning. For the parishes in Allegheny County we will be transitioning records in two phases for the new Allegheny Regional Office which is located on Logue Street in the West End section of Pittsburgh (the former Guardian Angels Parish Campus). St. James Parish Cemetery will begin operating under the new system as of January 18, 2018.

We will be transferring our records to the new cemetery office in the next few weeks. The new cemetery office phone number is 412-256-9370. As previously announced a few weeks ago, the clergy will be informed of their new assignments on April 26, 2018 and the new parish groupings will take effect October 15, 2018. The possible parish groupings for our area are St. James - Sewickley, St. Joseph-Coraopolis, St. Margaret Mary-Moon Township, and St. Catherine-Crescent. Stay tuned to the bulletin and the Pittsburgh Catholic Newspaper for further details.

Welcome We would like to welcome Frank, Tricia, Isabel, Ava and Zachary Nicolas, who recently registered at St. James Parish.

Are You Registered? If you attend St. James on a regular basis and are not officially registered, please complete a registration form located on the information tables and return it to the office.

If you are planning to move and change your address or are not receiving the Pittsburgh Catholic newspaper, please let us know so we can update our files.

Year-End Donations As you make decisions on year end contributions, please consider St. James Parish. An open donation helps us utilize your gift where it is most needed to run the day to day operations of our parish. If you would like, you can designate your donation to the Parish, School, or Parish Share. May God Bless you and your family this holy season.
