REJOICE!

For the past several weeks, during the weekend Masses, various funeral liturgies and even at last Friday night’s Spaghetti Dinner, I heard many positive compliments how inviting, active and welcoming our parish is. As your Pastor, I am so proud to say that I am from St. James- Sewickley because we are an active and alive Parish. What a great time to Rejoice!

Traditionally, the third Sunday of Advent is called “Gauete Sunday” which means Rejoice! We are half way to Christmas! We light the pink candle in our Advent wreath which signifies joy and hope.

In today’s first reading from Isaiah we read how a prophet reminds us to stay strong and fear not! In the second reading, from the Letter of James, we read how James looks forward to the second coming of the Lord. In today’s gospel of St. Matthew, we read once again about John the Baptist. John is in prison and begins to doubt and wonder whether Jesus is the Messiah.

We all have doubts about our faith every now and then. We must not fall into fear but have faith especially as we prepare for the birth of our Lord and prepare for the Second Coming of Christ.

As we approach “half time” in this advent season, let us work on being more patient and find peace and hope in the season. In doing things for others we can all prepare our hearts for the coming of the Lord!

Thank you to all who participated in our 2nd Annual Light Up Nightpasta feast on December 2. Over 520 meals were prepared! Special thanks to our Knights of Columbus and Women’s Guild for their hard work in making this event such a success!

REJOICE!

Advent Penance Services Advent is a wonderful time to get refreshed and renewed. There are various Penance Services being conducted the final two weeks of Advent to get ready for the Christmas Season.

This Wednesday, December 14 we will participate in “The Light Is On For You” which every parish in the Diocese of Pittsburgh will participate in. The church will be open and confessions will be available from 6:00 to 9:00pm.

A final district Penance Service will be conducted at 6:30pm on Monday, December 19 at St. Joseph Church in Coraopolis.

Christmas Wafers Christmas wafers “Oplatki” are available in church near the candle stands for a donation of $5.00. Simply drop the money in the candle box holders.

Christmas at St. James Christmas is a special time to celebrate the birth of our Lord with family and friends. Christmas Eve Masses are 4:00pm, 7:00pm and Midnight, and on Christmas Day at 9:30am.

Year-End Donations As we come close to the end of another year, I want to thank those who have worshiped with us, prayed with us, and celebrated with us. As you make decisions on your end contributions, please consider St. James Parish. Your financial contributions help us continue to keep the Parish campus updated, clean and comfortable. Please remember to support our Parish, School and the Parish Share campaign. Together we can keep St. James Catholic Parish Alive, Well and Growing. St. James Catholic Parish is truly the Light of Christ in the Heart of Sewickley!
