A Word From Fr. Tom - 11.06.16

The month of November is traditionally a month to remember our loved ones who have gone home with the Lord. At every Mass during this month we will offer our prayers for the names of our loved ones who are listed on the Memorial Board near the pulpit on the altar and the names listed in the Book of Remembrance.

This Sunday we celebrate the Thirty Second Sunday Ordinary Time and the readings this weekend and also for the next three Sundays focus on life after death. In the First Reading from the Book of Maccabees, we read how a mother and her sons profess their faith. They are confident that God will raise them to new life. In the Gospel of Luke, we read how Jesus confronts the Sadducees, who were a religious group who did not believe in life after death. The whole conversation is a trap to make Jesus look foolish no matter what he says. As Christians our hope of the resurrection is founded in the love God has shown us in Jesus.

We all have to go through the cycle of life, the beginning, middle and end. Let us wake up each day and live the day to the fullest. Remember all the great times with those loved ones who have passed on.

St. James School Blue and White Gala Next Saturday, November 12 we will have our annual Blue and White Gala at the Montour Heights County Club in Moon Township. This year we will honor Lou Valenzi with the Excellent Mind Award, and John Tucci with the Exceptional Heart Award. Congratulations Lou and John!

A catered lunch from 424 Walnut will be served in the Gathering Space at 11:00am then we will depart from the parking lot at 12:10pm for the Cathedral and return to Sewickley by 4:00pm. I will provide a personal tour and history of the Cathedral and stained glass windows as we also walk through the Holy Door of Mercy. Cost is $15.00 for the lunch. Bus transportation will be paid by the generosity of the Women’s Guild. Please reserve your space by this Wednesday, November 9 to Terri Price our Business Manager at 412-741-6650 ext. 312.
