PRACTICE WHAT WE PREACH!

The month of November is traditionally a month to remember our loved ones who have gone home with the Lord. At every Mass during this month we will offer our prayers for the names of our loved ones who are listed on the Memorial Board near the pulpit on the altar along with the names listed in the Book of Remembrance.

This Sunday we celebrate the Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings this weekend focus on being genuine with our every-day lives and “practice what we preach.”

In the First Reading from the Prophet Malachi, we read how a prophet challenges the spiritual leaders of his day. In the Second Reading from Paul’s Letter to the Thessalonians, we read how Paul is thankful for the way the community of faith puts the Gospel into action. In the Gospel of Matthew, we read how Jesus strongly criticizes the leaders of the Pharisees for not practicing what they preach. They want people to follow what they teach, but they do not follow it themselves.

We all have a responsibility, as parents, children, teachers, students, professionals, and as the church to set a good example - - one that invites others to join us in the daily work of building the Kingdom of God in our world. People look to us for guidance; they listen to our words, and observe our actions.

Let us lead by serving, mindful of the motives behind our actions. What we preach and practice should be consistent.

PRACTICE WHAT WE PREACH!

St. James School Blue and White Gala Next Saturday, November 11 we will have our annual Blue and White Gala at the Montour Heights County Club in Moon Township. This year we will honor Bob Basl with the Excellent Mind’s Award, and Judy Spanos with the Excellent Heart’s Award. Congratulations Bob and Judy!

On Mission for the Church Alive! As we continue to move forward with the On Mission for the Church Alive process, the 116 parishes that operate a parish cemetery will now be run professionally by the Catholic Parish Cemeteries Association. For the past several months the parishes in Greene and Washington Counties have transitioned their cemetery records from the parish offices to a new administrative center in Cecil Township, and the parishes in Beaver, Butler and Lawrence Counties have transitioned their cemetery records from the parish offices to the new administrative center in New Castle. Both centers are now fully functioning. For the parishes in Allegheny County we will be transitioning records in two phases for the new Allegheny Regional Office which will be located on Logue Street in the West End section of Pittsburgh (the former Guardian Angels Parish Campus). St. James Parish Cemetery will begin operating under the new system as of January 18, 2018. Stay tuned for further information as we transfer our records to the new cemetery office. As announced last week, the clergy will be informed of their new assignments on April 26, 2018 and the new parish groupings will take affect October 15, 2018.

Parish Improvements Metro Fencing of Moon Township installed a privacy fence around the HVAC unit behind the church building.

S & N Industries of Harmony completed new metal roofing above the Gym and School Entrances. - New rugs have been installed in the Church entrance. - A new receptacle has been added outside the Gymnasium entrance.

In Remembrance Special thoughts of Margaret Thein, who passed away on March 8, 2017. Margie left a very generous bequest to St. James Parish in her will. These funds will be used for some upcoming projects around our parish campus. With so many organizations to give to when a loved one passes, it is nice to keep those monetary gifts close to home. Please remember St. James in your will.

Welcome Home A special welcome to John Conte, David, Elizabeth, Olivia, and Miles Hammel who recently registered at St. James Parish.

Wedding Bells Congratulations to Jody Oberthaler and John Chmay who are celebrating their wedding this weekend!

Happy Birthday Happy Birthday to Patte Grey, our Pastoral Council Facilitator and 2017 Manifesting the Kingdom Awardee, who is celebrating her birthday this week!
