LOVE GOD, LOVE NEIGHBOR!

Growing up in Carrick, I was blessed to be surrounded by great neighbors. The Winschel, Paff, Ruhling and Miller families were all great families to live next to on Sinton Avenue, Yale Drive and Lucina Avenue. I have many fond memories of these neighbors!

This weekend we celebrate the Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Our readings focus on Loving God, and Loving Our Neighbor. In the First Reading from the Book of Exodus, we read how God sets high standards for the people of Israel. This reading is part of the Code of Law that resulted from God’s covenant with the Israelites at Mount Sinai. God’s care and compassion for the Israelites during the Exodus from Egypt becomes the model of God’s law. In the second reading from Paul to the Thessalonians, Paul reminds the people to “be imitators of Christ. In the Gospel of St. Matthew, we read how Jesus reminds us to Love God and Love our Neighbor. We must treat others as we would want to be treated.

As we approach the Eucharist, let us be nourished with the Sacrament to love of God and Neighbor.

LOVE GOD, LOVE NEIGHBOR!
