A Word From Fr. Tom - 10.16.16

It is natural to want to give up and throw in the towel when things go wrong or don’t go the way we would like it to. We need to keep moving forward and not give up hope but keep the faith.

This weekend we celebrate the Twenty-Ninth Sunday of Ordinary Time. The readings this weekend focus on being persistent and keeping the faith.

In the first reading from Exodus, we read how God’s people struggle to win victory against an enemy. Moses and Joshua win a battle against the evil leader Amalek. On their way to the Promised Land, the Israelites experienced many hardships. God gives them a reason to grow strong in faith. In the second reading from Paul to Timothy, Paul reminds Timothy to remain faithful. We are encouraged to persevere and be faithful to what we learn through Sacred Scripture. In the Gospel of St. Luke, we read the Parable of the Persistent Widow. Jesus highlights the action of a poor widow in order to teach about the necessity of perseverance in prayer. Let us pray always that our faith may be strengthened and our actions guided by God’s spirit.

A list of names will be listed in a future bulletin. If you would like to make a donation please make your check payable to “St. James Catholic Parish” and memo it Outdoor Prayer Garden Fund.
