Actions Speak Louder than Words!

This weekend, we celebrate the Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings this weekend focus on putting our faith in Christ into action. In the Gospel of St. Matthew, we read the Parable of the two sons. Jesus uses an obedient son and a disobedient son to show others how much we are a person of faith not only in what we say, but in what we do. The first son was told to go to work in the vineyard. He refused but later changed his mind and went. The second son received the same mandate, he said yes at first but then he never went. Following Christ entails participation in the spirit with compassion and mercy for all. Let us show others that we are followers of Christ by what we say and do!

On Mission For the Church Alive! The Diocese of Pittsburgh recently announced an update on the possible parish groupings for the On Mission Process that we will be undergoing next year:

St. Catherine of Sienna in Crescent, St. James Sewickley, St. Joseph in Coraopolis and St. Margaret Mary in Moon Township.

The four parishes currently are working together with joint Advent and Lenten Penance Services, sharing coverage for Heritage Valley Sewickley Hospital, and each promoting various parish programs and activities for all four parishes to participate in. Stay tuned for more information about the On Mission process in future bulletins and also in the Pittsburgh Catholic Newspaper.

Regional Vicar Very Reverend Sam Esposito was recently appointed Episcopal Vicar for On Mission for the Church Alive! and chaplain to Felician Sisters in Moon Townhsip. We thank Fr. Sam for his wonderful service as our Vicar for the past six years. Very Rev. Howard Campbell has been appointed to be the new Regional Vicar of Vicariate Three. We wish him well in his new assignment.

Prayer Garden and Fish Pond Upgrade Project The first round of engraved commemorative bricks have been installed in our prayer garden near the Blessed Mother statue! We are also going to upgrade our fish pond with a new filtering system, clean the pond and set new coping around the pond for a more secure safety railing. Donations are being accepted for this project. For a $50.00 or more we are offering an engraved commemorative brick installed on the prayer path. There is no limit now for the number of bricks that you can buy.

For a donation of $1,000 or more you can have your family name listed on the back of a special “Major Gifts” Welcome Garden Sign that will be installed at the entrance of our garden.

If you would like to purchase a brick or make a major gift in memory or in honor of a loved one, please contact our Business Manager, Terri Price at the Rectory at 412-741-6650 extension 312 or email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please make checks payable to St. James Catholic Parish and memo it “Prayer Garden Upgrade Project.”

Anointing of the Sick The Sacrament of Anointing will be available after all the Masses next weekend October 7 and 8.

Mass Intention Sign Up On Sunday, October 22 from 8:00am to 1:00pm in the Gathering Space we will have our books open for Mass Intentions for 2018. Those who are physically unable to come in person to the Gathering Space can give it to another person or forms can be mailed or dropped off after Monday, October 23. (Forms will not be accepted any earlier).

Please note that because of the On Mission For The Church Alive process and the possibility of the new parish groupings having to change the Mass Schedule, Mass intention times scheduled from September 1, 2018 thru December 31, 2018 could possibly move to another time. Thank you for your understanding and patience with this process.

Congratulations Congratulations to Patte Grey for receiving the Manifesting the Kingdom Award last Sunday at St. Paul Cathedral!

Congratulations to Jackson Robert Mendez and Milo Wright Charles Pillitteri who are being Baptized this weekend.

Happy 10th anniversary to Bishop David A. Zubik on his 10th anniversary of his Installation as the Bishop of Pittsburgh!

Welcome Home A special welcome to Tom and Pam Doran and Arnie and JoAnn Thomas who recently registered at St. James Parish.
