A Word From Fr. Tom - 08.14.16

This weekend we celebrate the Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary time. The readings this weekend focus on being a follower of Christ can mean that we are not always going to be welcomed by others. In the first reading we read the Prophet Jeremiah is rejected and some leaders want to kill him. A member of the court knows that he is speaking the truth and convinces King Zedekiah to draw Jeremiah out of the muddy water and his life is saved. In the Second Reading, Paul reminds us to get rid of our burdens and sins that cling to us and encourages all followers of Christ to persevere. In the Gospel of Luke, we read how Jesus proclaims the hard teaching that following Him will cause division between family and friends. Jesus proclaims that he has come to set the earth on fire. Following Jesus requires the willingness to bear the cost of rejection and opposition from others.

We are called to be witnesses to the challenges Jesus has brought to the world. Whether it is defending the unborn life, economic justice, or promoting peace, our faith can be tested.

They currently reside in Moon Township.
