A Word From Fr. Tom - 06.18.17

HAPPY FATHERS DAY!

During the Lenten season I refrained from eating cookies, cakes, and ice cream. It was a big sacrifice but I did it and it felt good that I lost ten pounds. Recently while I was working out at the Sewickley YMCA a parishioner said to me, “Fr. Tom you lost some weight!” What a great compliment. Now that Lent is over I have to confess that I have returned to eating sweets (but in moderation.) Just this past week a friend of mine gave me a book called “Let Food Be Your Medicine” by Dr. Don Colbert. I have started reading the book and it is a good guide to remind me to try to eat healthy every day. As they say… we are what we eat!

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ traditionally known as “Corpus Christi.” In today’s Gospel, we read the famous “Bread of Life Discourse.” Jesus offers us incredible food for the journey. As believers, we take Jesus for his word as he says: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven, whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

We need the spiritual food of the Eucharist to successfully complete our life journey. Our Lord’s presence in the Eucharist is not only the source of God’s love for us and of our worship and adoration, it also gives us a challenge for us to give witness of the Lord’s love to our world.

Let us appreciate the Eucharist at every Mass we attend. Never take it for granted. Let us be fed and nourished and go out and share our food to others in need.

On this Father’s Day let us pray for all living and deceased fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, uncles or anyone who holds a fatherly role in our life.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY!

Parish Improvements Ron Parisi Home Remodeling of Ambridge is currently working on renovating both the men’s and women’s restrooms in the Gathering Space. Because the restrooms are being renovated, the only restrooms available are in the church (near the Ushers room). Please be patient while the renovations are taking place. Because of the limited bathrooms being available both restrooms in the church are now available for both men and women. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Something to Think About… I believe that what we become depends on what our fathers teach us at odd moments, when they aren’t trying to teach us. We are formed by little scraps of wisdom.

With God, All Things Are Possible!
